Beginning with the Draisine in 1817, bicycles have featured strongly in the daily commute, and continue to maintain their status as an affordable means of transportation (as well as being regarded as a healthy recreational activity). Cape Town City has recently witnessed the creation of a Bicycle Lane on Bree Street extending into the foreshore which has helped to promote safe cycling and highlighted the need for cycle safety in the city. |
